Looking after your toys keeps them hygienic and helps them last longer. The good news is that it only takes a minute. Here is a simple routine to follow.
Before you start: check the label
Every toy is different. Check whether yours is fully waterproof, splash-proof or not water-resistant. This decides how you can clean it. You will find this in the product description or on the packaging.
Step-by-step cleaning
- Switch off and unplug. Never clean a toy while it is charging.
- Rinse with warm water. For waterproof toys, rinse the whole surface. For non-waterproof toys, use a damp cloth and keep water away from buttons and charging ports.
- Wash with mild soap or toy cleaner. Use unscented soap or a dedicated toy cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol and bleach, which can damage the surface.
- Rinse again. Make sure no soap is left behind.
- Dry completely. Pat dry with a clean, lint-free towel and let it air-dry before storing.
When to clean
Clean your toy before the first use, after every use, and before sharing it with a partner.
Storage tips
- Store each toy separately, ideally in a cloth pouch or its original box.
- Keep toys away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Do not let different materials touch for long periods, as some can react with each other.
- Remove batteries from battery-powered toys if you will not use them for a while.
Charging and battery care
- Charge fully before first use.
- Use the cable that came with the toy.
- Avoid leaving it charging overnight once it is full.
Lubricant matters
Use a water-based lubricant with silicone toys. Silicone-based lubricant can damage silicone toys over time.
